Hon. Sean Astwood born July 8th 1973, was first elected to the Turks and Caicos Islands legislature in 2003 after successfully contesting the electoral seat in the Five Cays constituency where he grew up and lived for most of his childhood and early adult life. His tenure was short in the first instance due to a by-election, however, he won this seat for two consecutive terms in 2012 and 2016. He has held a number of high profile political positions including his former Deputy Leader of the People’s Democratic Movement (PDM), Deputy Premier and Minister for Border Control and Employment and also Minister of Infrastructure Housing and Planning. Hon. Astwood is also a member of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (TCI Branch) and as also serve in senior position on a number of parliamentary Committees.
Subsequent to his formative years of schooling at the Enid Capron Primary School in Five Cays and the Clement Howell High School in Blue Hills, respectively, Hon. Astwood pursued tertiary education at Northern Caribbean University in Jamaica where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. Since his return to the Turks and Caicos Islands he gained a diverse amount of professional experience working in various sectors of the economy, namely; the banking industry, tourism industry, construction industry, retail industry and airport management.
Astwood also participated in several impactful local and international engagements such as the bi-partisan Blue Ribbon Commission on Immigration in the Turks and Caicos Islands, the United Nations Seminar on Decolonization in Ecuador 2014 and he led a PDM delegation into a meeting with CARICOM Special Committee during the period of Interim Administration.
His dedication to his country is unwavering as demonstrated by the leading role he plays in almost every facet of everyday life and in furtherance of his commitment to the youth.
He is the proud father of two children and enjoys the strong bond of a large extended family.
